Thinning begins
A local forestry company from Chulmleigh have agreed to thin the wood at no cost to us as they will take the wood away to sell for firewood. They began work this week. They expected to take two to three weeks but in the end they did not finish the work (on the first half of the wood) until later in March.
It coincided with the clear felling of the neighbouring wood, Colebrook, which contained 60 year old Douglas Firs up to 100 feet high and whose impact on the light we had not understood. Combined with our thinning, there has been a major change in the way the wood looks that has been quite shocking.
